Title: Front-end Engineering Lead

Reports to: Creative Director



What We're Looking for:

Basic Research has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative Front-end Engineer who is highly organized, extremely detail oriented and capable of working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations and demanding deadlines. The Front-end Engineer will report into the Creative Director and work closely with the visual design, development and marketing teams. Our ideal candidate is passionate about partnering with visual designers and building engaging digital experiences for mobile, web and email. They will be instrumental in ensuring our digital efforts are executed with precision and efficiency by overseeing the hand-off team between Creative and Development. Experience in the Health & Beauty/Weight Loss/Fitness categories a plus.



  • Experience building engaging digital experiences for mobile, web and email
  • Familiarity with InVision and Sketch
  • Experience facilitating the handoff between creative and development
  • UX experience required
  • Graphic Design experience a +
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities and effectively developing timelines



  • 5+ years front-end development/design experience


Proficient with:

  • HTML5, CCS3, JS and jQuery
  • CSS Pre-processor (Sass,Less)
  • Understanding of grid framework such as Foundation or Bootstrap
  • Responsive email templates
  • Email testing tools (Litmus, Emailonacid, etc.)
  • Understanding of Git, SourceTree, Stash
  • Adobe Creative Suite


  • Must have a strong portfolio that exemplifies a broad range of web experience and working on site design and coding
  • Should be well-versed in Web technologies, best practices, emerging trends in media, and marketing
  • Must have previous experience managing and/or building a team
  • Must possess strong conception, presentation, and client-facing skills (marketing, development, executives)



  • Building the client-side code for polished templates, from HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript that meet W3C standards
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced environment to rapidly iterate and prototype digital products
  • Testing and troubleshooting HTML across multi-platform browsers and email clients
  • Produce and execute creative/content for e-Commerce website and email materials
  • Optimize web graphics to ensure maximum download speed while maintaining high visual quality
  • Follow brand standards and web style guides to ensure brand maintains their unique visual identity
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager
